A little Christmas fun...

annual post
A couple months ago doodle got out and was lost for almost two days. Mark was devastated, they are really close. We were convinced he was too dumb to make it in the world. But he came back really hungry and really tired, but otherwise unscathed.
Snicker really missed him too.
Halloween was good.
Thanksgiving was good. We just stayed home with the family. Mark made yummy turkey. I made some fine pies, if I do say so myself.
We added Raja belle to our family. She came to us from Britteny's family. She is one of the best dogs in history, she is so well behaved and sweet. The cats dont like her much, but they do ok. Doodle might not care at all except that when one of the other two get scared he thinks he has to protect them.
The kids are all doing well. Jeff it taller than me and his voice is so low it freaks me out sometimes (I'l hear him from another room and think some strange man is in the house.). He is really getting into music and seems to have really good friends. Regin is a typical tweeny/teeny girl. She giggles a lot talks about boys a lot, and texts an insane amount. (we have shut off her texting capability on more than one occasion.)she is loving choir and has done a few performances she also nearly got a duet at the last one, she made it to second cuts. Drew just did gifted testing and is involved in a program called future problem solvers. His hair is to his chin, he looks like a surfer stuck in the wrong climate.
Mark and I are doing well. He just accepted a new position at work where he will be working more with the sales staff of the company. So far he likes it very much. I am still watching Mike 5 days a week. He is such the cute guy. I also do a little data entry for Mark's work on the side.
Mark took me to see 30 seconds to Mars last week. It was a splendid concert. Their new album came out today. It is very good.
Regin and I both painted windows for Christmas this year.
Who knows if I will get around to posting again anytime soon. So Merry Christmas to all. See you next year.

There is a lot going on that I can't/won't share with you all. So we will stick to the occasional video and humor post.

During Heroes this week they played the theme song to "Greatest American Hero."
I LOVED THAT SHOW!
The only drawback? Now the damn theme has been stuck in my head ever since.

The one in which stuff gets said...
Can I just say that I LOVE the fact that our kids are old enough to self-manage? That way I can text Maxine from work and say, "Hey, we should go out tonight!" and not have to worry about a babysitter.
So we went to see one of the more romantic movies that is out currently. Zombieland. I know, total chick-flick, right? It has a wonderful love story.
This is a clip. Safe viewing and heeeelarious.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHpgMdyS7Sw
We also went to dinner at Iggys which was decent but I wasn't really hungry after gorging on popcorn. The raspberry iced tea was DIVINE though. I think it was the best I've ever had.

Happiness is never having to listen to you talk.
So those of you that have seen me lately know I have been growing out my beard. I don't know why. Some times I just get on a kick.
Yesterday, I felt like shaving it off. Before I did, I sported some lambchops. (For about a MINUTE!)
Maxine wanted a picture, so here it is:

When in doubt, shout it out...
This video sums up life. (It is highly offensive but made me laugh hysterically. Be careful.)
Now that things have settled a bit, I hope to get back to posting regularly.
Here is another great vid to tide you over:
Mad props to NGTV.com. They have some really great content and they don't censor people.

Sometimes...
I woke up yesterday giddy with the anticipation of a new season. I woke up this morning a little worried but still full of hope.
It was not an especially good showing.
Devin Hester looks decent as a wideout. I still wonder if he will be truly effective as a punt returner.
Matt Forte had some flashes of brilliance but I don't think he got his touches early enough in the game to be effective.
Earl Bennett will work out, I think. He doesn't run his routes especially well yet and he dropped a few balls but when he caught it he knew what to do after the catch.
And what to say about Jay Cutler? He is my quarterback. I do not have the benefit of game film to know how many of his interceptions were bad routes and how many were bad throws. My gut says its 2-2. His post game comments don't really tell us anything. He seemed annoyed at the loss and referred to the team as "we" which is a good sign. Time will tell. I still reserve judgment on him. I put my eggs in the Rex Grossman basket a little too easily and am still hurting because of it.
Coach Smith is a great man. In his post game comments he didn't make excuses but he also didn't sugar coat it. I love his philosophy that your defense is only good when they produce takeaways.
In other news, now that I have to follow three different teams, both Kyle Orton (Broncos) and Thomas Jones (Jets) got wins today. Orton wasn't especially good in his game, the game winner being a broken play with a lucky bounce, but he was exactly what you expect from him. I didn't get to see the Jets game but Jones' stat line looked pretty good. With a rookie quarterback even...
I doubt I will watch the Broncos or Jets at all this year but I like both of these guys so I will definitely keep an eye on how they do. They will always be Bears to me.
I love me some football. Let's go BEARS! It was a rough day yesterday but the team is still a winner and should do well this season.

You are just about as useless as JPEGs to Helen Keller...
We were laughing so hard that we missed parts of the videos and had to replay a couple.
It dawned on me as we were going through some of my old favorites that a lot of them came out when I was their ages. Unfortunately some of them weren't as funny to kids that weren't around in the time that made them funny. No matter how I tried, I couldn't get them to see that Devo was being serious in their video and Weird Al was making a parody. They thought they were both parodies.
Oh well. It is the times like these that make me so glad I am a parent and I have such wonderful kids to share fond memories with.
I didn't link to any videos but you can see a lot of them on You Tube. Embedding is blocked by Al's request.

what other meaningless crap can I talk about
I think the best ACTORS of today are Johnny Depp and Leonardo Dicaprio, they are true character actors. I think Heath Ledger was making his way on to that list as well. Some of my faves just cuz I like them are Laura Linney, Ryan Reynolds, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Kate Winslet, Collin Firth, Paul Walker (I know I will take some crap for this one, People think it is just cuz he is yummy, but I say watch Noel, he has the best masculine cry in the business, just enough vulnerability.) , Claire Danes, Matt Damon, there are more that I will think of as soon as I post this.
As for actors I am not fond of. I do like some movies despite some of these people being in them though, and they may be very cool people. I don't know them personally so I couldn't say. All I'm sayin is I am not a fan of Juliette Lewis, Mark Wahlberg (although I like Marky mark, go figure), Nicholas Cage. That is all that pops in my head at the moment.
Netflix movies coming today are sliding doors , one of my top 10, if you haven't seen it, Do. 17 again, ya that right the one with Zac Efron, he reminds me of Jared Leto ten or fifteen years ago. And Fired up, a teenybopper comedy that looked funny in the previews. we are crashing we we are crashing. We shall see if it meets my gut busting expectations.
Its Friday, have some fun, watch a movie with someone you love, love to live and live to love.
Peace out.

Musical memories
You know what else makes me happy? MUSIC. Dont you agree? Cant you place music to people and memories that make you smile?
Here are a few of mine.
Simon and Garfunkel, Olivia newton John, Neil diamond, and many more bring back being little in the living room on a sea of blue carpet listening to the giant radio with the family.
technotronic: pump up the jam, Alphaville: forever young, Depeche mode: somebody, Billy Idol: mony mony takes me back to every school, region, and classic skating dance of my youth. I danced to forever young with Josh Vigas, my crush in 9th grade.
TLC ooooh on the tlc tip album has some personal memories.
Spin Doctors, cranberries, and pm dawn all have dating and early marriage memories with Mark, like getting the colt to 100 mph on I-215, hanging out the day before he left for boot camp, and just being together.
Whitney Houstons version of I'm every woman (trust me my sisters are smiling before I even say this memory) Mark used to sing this song at the top of his lungs while dancing. Damn I love that man.
Some songs or bands make me think of specific people. I will name a few, but not tell you who they remind me of. Maybe they will remind you of someone also.
Hewey Lewis and the news, Hermans Hermits, Outkast: so fresh and so clean, Outkast: rosa parks, orgy: blue monday, the beatles, metalica, rancid, smashing pumpkins.
Are you smiling yet? If not find some music that makes you happy, now blast it. Then I with the help of you will have made the world a better place through music. Help me help you.
My kids are at ages where they are really getting into music. This is fun to witness. What moves them or what they dont like. Jeff listens to the angry teenage boy music that his friends listen to. Regin is a pop princess, her new faves are Lady gaga and katy perry (this made me nervous for a minute, I was like are theese the role models I want for her? Then I laughed at myself because I dont believe they should actually be considered role models or that kids are really that susceptible. I grew up on Madonna yet I did not wear cone bra's or vogue dance, or marry Sean Penn. So I dont think Regin would hump pool orcas, or wear a leotard with control top panty hose sticking out the bottom.) Andrew has definate opinions he loves greenday, go figure. And the all american rejects and hates rob thomas.
I hope my kids get as much joy from music in their lives as I have had in mine.

I Wish
Dear Santa, Please bring me a zebra, and some starburst.
Love,
Maxine
p.s. I have been a very good girl this year.
J/K
I wish I was rich (monetarily, I am already rich in love)
I wish I had a rocking bod (basically that my big ass was matched by big boobs.)
I wish I had a jeep (with the gas mileage of a prius)
I wish I could go to France (not for fries but to see Monet's garden)
I wsh I had good teeth (to smile with)
I wish I played the drums (its a musical instrument that you hit with sticks, Like rock band but without the tv)
I wish I had a tatoo (a water lily on my back on my left shoulder, cuz I need to have a reason not to hate that shoulder and want it amputated all the time)
and finally
I wish I was a little bit taller
I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl from the hood I would call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat
and a six four empalla
Skee lo, are those the right words or is it like when Van Halen sings Panama and all I hear is Cannonball?

A few thoughts and other unimportant thing
We will pretend this next part is on subject because they both have to do with movies. James Marsden in one of the most under rated actors today. In my opinion. Think about all the movies he has been in. Holy crap it could be as many as Morgan Freeman. The first thing I recall seeing him in is called Gossip, where he played quite the prick. Although looking at his filmography he did plenty before that. I guess it is just the first thing I noticed him in. I watched it with Chelle, and we were both like who is that guy. I have decided he is probably the Cary Grant of today. He does all kinds of acting. He plays jerks, bad guys, good guys, romantic guys, funny guys, super heros, he sings, dances, and best of all makes me laugh. Some of his best are the notebook, hairspray, 27 dresses, sex drive, and his crowning achievment in my opinion Enchanted. He is one talented person. Netflix some of his stuff and Enjoy.

The whole world is a place and things.
That all ends today.
It just takes too much energy to walk around pissed off all the time. As some of you may know, I am fairly obsessed with Karma, the Dalai Lama, and trying to live a good, peaceful life.
Today in my readings I came across a site selling "Karma Checks." These checks come in two varieties. Good Karma and Bad Karma. The good are for handing out when someone does you a good turn. The bad, obviously, when you perceive you are wronged.
I found humor in these until I really started to think about it. The good checks are fine but individuals do not have the perspective to judge another persons bad behavior. That, and handing a bad check to someone is a good way to get punched in the head.
Remember to take a few minutes every day to reflect on yourself.
Remember the words of the Dalai Lama:
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."
That is what everything boils down to.

A few random thoughts
Sometimes I have a tendency to get a little negative. I struggle with keeping a positive outlook on things and focus on the things that are not going exactly how I want them to. I like to think that I am generally a positive, easy going person but that may not be true.
I thought it was about damn time I made a post of things that I am grateful for right now so I can quit whining and get along with things.
In no particular order:
1) I have Maxine. I know, I know, you are probably sick of my sappy blathering about how wonderful she is but she is my everything.
2) The four most wonderful kids. Four? Yes, that is right. I count Michael. Although he isn't mine by birth and I only see him "part-time" he is very much a part of our family.
3) Maxine's family. All of them. Even the stinky ones. (You know who you are) They have always accepted me for who I am and filled the holes in my heart that needed filling. They are not "in-laws" they are family. They are my family.
4) I tend to keep the list of people I consider friends pretty short. (If you don't count family and co-workers) We have some pretty damn awesome friends right next door and have reconnected with a few others that we haven't talked to in years. It's pretty great.
5) Qqest. Try pronouncing it. I dare you. I have a great job. Sometimes it stresses me out. Sometimes I work ALOT of hours. Most days I have a blast. The work is challenging and consistent. I am fairly compensated. I love the people I work with and I have an awesome boss.
6) Stability. Bottom line...I have a safe, stable, and fun environment to live in with Maxine and the kids. We are all healthy, happy, and strong. (even if I am a little too "healthy")
I have absolutely nothing to complain about but minor annoyances especially when I look around and see what others are going through.
On a side note, my sister, Rebecca, and her family came through town on vacation this week. We got to spend a few hours hanging out and getting to know them. It was really nice to see them. I haven't spent time with her or her husband in about 20 years. I had never met their wonderful children and it was great to let my boys hang out with her kids at the park. (Poor Regin missed it while she was at camp.)
Have a great long weekend!

So coming up in the next few weeks there will be mucho fun and many adventures.
Regin has Girl's camp, Andrew and I have scout camp, and then we are ALL going camping together.
Good Grief! That's a load o' camping. We haven't been camping in a few years. It should be a great time!
I am sure we will take some pictures that we may (or may not) get around to posting. I still need to get the end of school pics posted.
Right now it is just too dang nice outside to bother with it.

Awards, acalades, and recognition .. oh my.
This is rather late considering the last day of school was june 5th, but it is still the same month so I can pretend I'm not a complete lazy butt.
The kids have received many awards over the years, but this year they received the following. Jeff got an award for testing in the top ten percent in the country in both science and reading. Regin (the little over achiever) , amazed me with how many awards she got. She graduated from 6th grade so we went to the commencement. Mark spent more time standing to take pics of Regin getting awards than he did sitting. She got a certificate for reading over one million words this year (thank you Stephenie Meyer). She got an american citizenship award, a certificate for participating in math olympics, a plaque for the hope of america award (for demonstrating leadership, ethical and moral character and outstanding academic accomplishment). And finally the presidents education award, she got a certificate, a pin, and a letter from President Obama (this was for outstanding academic excellence , particularly in math.) We are very proud of her. She works so hard.
Andrew was lucky enough to have a teacher this past year who understood him. Recognized how smart he is, but also didnt let him get away with anything. She gave him the hurricane award for being the "messiest Ever! (smartest too)" . He is forgetfull and unorganized, but very intelligent and charismatic.
The year over all was good. There have been a few issues with completing assignments for the boys. I cant believe Jeff is going to be in 9th grade. Technically high school. Yikes! Regin will be in middle school, mak-up, leg shaving, double yikes! Drew will be in 5th, we are working on his organization over the summer, which never lasts long enough.
On a side note. You probably notice a huge difference between when Mark and I post in things like spelling, grammar, and general coherence. See my kids take after Mark in level of intelligence (thank God). Not that I am a big idiot, but my strengths have never been scholastic in nature. Thank you for your understanding and not correcting me. ( I hate it when people correct me).

Reflection and introspection...
It is about 30 minutes to Father's Day as I write this. I am going to "future post" it so that it hits on Father's Day. I have been thinking about what it means to me to be a father. I have also been thinking about the many ways I am similar and different from my own father.
I like to think that I have been fairly successful so far as a father and that it somehow makes up for my general shittiness as a son. All of this leads me to dwell on my past. Never a good road for me to travel.
On my drive home the other day I followed a biker lady. It made me think of my mother and all of the time I didn't get to spend with her. I spent years harboring deep resentment for her utter and total abandonment of me. I have since moved past that and decided that it makes no sense to be angry at a stranger. There were those people in my childhood that caused much worse physical and emotional damage. I have moved past anger towards them as well. (Ok, mostly) I am now, as an adult, able to maintain my distance from them no matter how intertwined they may be with my family. I refuse to let them poison my children's lives, even if that means I do not get to have a relationship with my father. (Whom I miss horribly, especially on Father's Day)
As a parent, I see it as my fundamental task in life to provide in the best way I possibly can for my children. This, to me, is more than providing financially. Having Maxine as my partner in this, it would be easy to make enough money to provide every little thing and have any material possessions that they want. That is not how we choose to live. We are teaching our children to value people over possessions. In our house, it is more rewarding to sit in the living room talking for hours at a time than it is to sit and watch a movie together. We live a pretty frugal life and are teaching our children to live happily with the things they need more than with the things they want. (And yes, we provide some "wants" to. They are kids, after all) We all value each other's company and spend most of our time together. I know this will probably change as they get older but for now I cherish it. My children understand the proper way to treat people and are the most fantastic kids I have ever encountered. I attribute that, in large part, to Maxine's wonderful guidance. I am doing my best to teach my boys how to become good men, and I think they are progressing well down that road.
I know that this post comes off as a therapy post and to an extent it is. Father's Day is a bittersweet day for me and as it approaches, I am getting just a little melancholy.
To all the fathers out there, Happy Fathers Day. I hope to send something cheery a little bit later on.

I have (a little too much) personal experience with this one...
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo0Vv0J6jtw
For those that made it... A little enlightenment.
While I may not share your views and wonder at how you can believe some of the things that you do, here are the five precepts of Buddhism. I try to follow, shouldn't you? (Rhyme fully intended)
* I undertake the precept of abstaining from destroying living creatures.
* I undertake the precept of abstaining from taking anything not freely given.
* I undertake the precept of abstaining from sexual misconduct.
* I undertake the precept of abstaining from false speech.
* I undertake the precept of abstaining from taking intoxicants which lead to carelessness.
Granted, I suck at a couple of them but it is the journey that makes us who we are. Wouldn't it also be grand if we all shed the labels that we use to identify ourselves?
Peace out y'all!

They finally found it...
A brain trust finally came up with a cure for stupid.
For those that don't know, stupid is a terminal, and often hereditary, disease that affects millions of Americans.
Signs include:
-Talking out your ass
-Making a fool out of yourself regularly
-Thinking you are, in fact, not stupid (aka Denial)
-Chronic confusion (Often wondering what the hell is going on)
-Other symptoms as described by your friends. (They can often spot the signs you missed)
The cure is quite simple and only takes 5 steps.
1) Go to your local grocery or convenience store.
2) Buy a pack of gum. Ask for a bag.
3) Return home, place the gum on the counter.
4) Firmly affix the bag to your head.
5) Breathe Deeply.
In no time at all, you will be cured and the world will be a better place.
For those truly affected, you may require assistance. If anyone offers to assist, please advise them that they are probably affected as well.
For those that need it, a visual:
Have a great day!

Kung Pow: Enter The Fist
It is Kung Pow: Enter The Fist. It may be the funniest movie EVER!
Here are a couple of clips from Hulu. They are not the clips that I would have chosen but they are damn funny. We have many, many sayings around the house that come from this movie. I would strongly encourage EVERYONE, their dog, their momma, their aunt, their neighbor, and their third cousin's roommate's friend's gynecologist to watch it.
I couldn't resist (Audio from Kung Pow):
George Bush is Master Betty! - For more amazing video clips, click here
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGCaCB8ebTc
And, some quotes:
----------------------------------
Master Betty: Go get some snacks, perhaps a carbonated soda!
Ling: I hope they have Icees!
Chosen One: I have chosen the large tub.
Wimp Lo: My nipples look like Milk Duds!
Master Tang: I've got some yellow liquid for your popcorn, and it's non-dairy!
----------------------------------
Master Tang: [narrating] At that moment, the Chosen One learned a valuable lesson about iron claws... THEY HURT LIKE CRAP MAN.
----------------------------------
Wimp Lo: Take a close look. 'Cause I rule, baby.
Chosen One: And who do you rule, the large-dark-nipple people?

Happy Hallmark Holiday!
Happy day! I think it is fairly common knowledge that I am not a huge fan of Mother's Day. (Or Valentine's Day, or Halloween, or any other contrived holiday that was created to sell cards, candy, and mindless bs.)
But that really isn't the point. I celebrate Maxine every day as the mother of my children. (and my best friend, and my reason for living, etc) I think that is good enough. And since she made me swear not to buy her anything, it all fits together nicely. I was bored this morning and, as I often do, was browsing YouTube.
Here are a few commemorative videos for your viewing pleasure:
(some are kind of lame but there are a couple goodies out there and they all have at least *some* redeeming qualities)

This one was pointed out to me by Ted. Thanks brutha! I still think its hilarious!

On a side note, I did a google search for "I Hate Mothers Day" (I was hoping there would be something funny) and the fourth search result was this. I still haven't stopped laughing. That one article really sums up the christian spirit, doesn't it? Bah, you can keep it. I will stick to my universal principles.
Have a great day! Star Trek in T-Minus 3 Hours and counting.....

The Aftermath....
One final thank you to everyone that supported me. I didn't train. I struggled horribly. But I finished.
It was a morning for a good cause, spent with good friends, in a super positive atmosphere.
Here is a pic of me doing my best fruit loop pose.
And, of course, here is one of the entire Qqest Posse.

A Few Randomocities
Hopefully Maxine's uber ick toe will be strong enough that she can participate. We took the bandaging off last night and it is still really tender. We will try getting a shoe on it tonight and walking around a bit to see how it goes. We were going to post pictures but once it was soaked and the crustyness was removed it wasn't really all that gross looking.
In other news, Star Trek opens today. I am almost a quivering mass of goo anticipating the joy that is Star Trek but I am putting on a strong face so I do not scare animals and small children. (Yes you, Corbin...although I guess you aren't that small anymore.)
And now, for something completely different...
You know I love the guys over at Mediocre Films. They are hella funny and posted another gem.
Today's video is brought to you by the letter "C", the number 12, and Tuesday. No, not this Tuesday, next Tuesday.
See you then.
When?
Next Tuesday.
What?
I SAID SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY!
Or you could treasure Andrew's current favorite joke.
We were outside tossing a football last night and he said; "Hey Dad, say I, spell cup, and then say pretty colors!"
You just did it, didn't you. Andrew is laughing in his head although he isn't even awake yet.
Yep. My kids are better than yours.
Have a great day!
A new lease on life
I like to think that it stems from the fact that most people are assholes. You know who you are.
Then, I thought, WWBD? (What would Buddha do?) That is not nearly as creative as AYHSMB, but it is more pleasant.
I talk a lot of crap about people. Maybe not a lot by your standards but a lot by mine. I am going to work on it.
Oh, and I figured out a way to put YouTube videos on my sidebar. Now showing, the GREATEST MUSIC VIDEO EVER MADE!!!!!!!

When I move you move.....just like that...
I had a blast hanging out with the two coolest guys I know. We saw so many things and so many people it is hard for me to describe specifics.
Our pack's booth was a shorter version of the Space Derby that we did a few months ago. My favorite part of the ENTIRE Scout-A-Rama was the time I got to spend with the scouts and their families running space derby races.
They say these types of events are for the scouts but I think I got as much out of it as Andrew did.
It was a good time. If you didn't make it out this year, try next year. I am sure we will sell you a ticket. There were events and booths that would appeal to anyone in the family.
Good times!

So many posts, so little content...
I have been adhering to that lately. I have some story ideas and the like stored up that I am tinkering with and various other blog worthy topics but you just have to wait until they formulate themselves.
In the meantime, AYHSMB.
Look it up. Its hilarious.
Also, don't forget, Scout-A-Rama is this weekend at the South Towne Expo Center. Race for the cure is next weekend.

The Weekend of Jeff....
Damn.
He is old.
Anyways for his Birthday, we went to Hastur's and got our geek on. After spending an eternity looking through comics, games, and D&D books, he decided on some expansion figurines for his D&D Miniatures game. After that little jaunt, we went home to have lunch with our lovely ladies and then....Nickelcade. Don't worry. I took some excedrin in advance. Wandering around the arcade with a pocket full of jingles really brought back some memories for me. It was a great day spent mostly hanging with the two coolest guys I know.
Oh, and for the record, there was NO cake. Root beer floats were the dessert du jour.
Yummy. Cake is for freaks.
Have a great day!

Another critically important post.
I am in a ranting mood today and am feeling rather grumpy so I am not really posting anything.
Expect frogs. And mice.
And don't forget pickles.
Aren't you glad you wasted 25 seconds of your life reading this? :-)
Have you ever tried fried bananas? I have. They are kind of gross.
Ok, now close your eyes and pretend I ranted about all of the things that are clouding up my brain this morning.
Ok, now you are offended. It happens. I am sure you will get over it.
Wow, in the minute or two I spent writing this, I have deleted three different rants from the body of this post. My brain is screwy. I need to stop now. But before I do, I want you to research the difference between salvation by grace and salvation by works. Which one makes the most sense to you?
Now go make yourself have a WONDERFUL day.

Anniversary
So monday was our 15th anniversary. Mark had requested the whole week off. Unfortunately he spent the first few days quite sick. It was great having him home. Having lunch together and hanging out. It was like a week long celebration of our anniversary. Monday we went to dinner as a family. Friday Mark and I went and saw fast and furious (which I really liked, he said he did to but he may have just been humoring me.) Saturday we got all gussied up and went to a really nice dinner at Fratelli's (which I probably just spelled incorrectly) it was wonderful, authentic Italian food, with a lovely atmosphere. Then we went to the store to get some cheesecake for the family. You cant see it in the pic, but I was wearing super high strappy black heels. I'm sure Kim would have rocked them, but I am high heel challenged so I was wobbling like a weeble. Mark said he would holler and sing to pull attention away from my barely being able to walk. The image that conjured in my head gave me a serious case of the giggles. So I was having a laughing fit in the store wobbling along. probably not looking so much like a weeble anymore, just drunk.
The reason I tell the weeble wobble story even though you probably didn't care to hear it is because it demonstrates some of my favorite things about being with my Mark. He is funny as hell, I spend so much time laughing, and he can make me laugh whenever he wants. Also that he would do anything for me. Including but not limited to making a fool of himself in public. I could tell you dozens of stories when he has been a spectacle on my behalf. There are billions of reasons why I love Mark. I will spare you the details, suffice it to say I AM WITHOUT A DOUBT THE LUCKIEST, BEST LOVED, WOMAN IN THE WORLD. Ahhhh is good to be me.
The Greatest EVER
Oh yeah, some guy named Michael Jordan was also inducted but no one has ever heard of him.

Am I happy...am I sad...am I happy...am I sad?
And then I read the story:
Joining Bears a dream come true for Pro Bowl QB Cutler - Chicago Bears.
They traded Kyle Orton, and two first round draft picks for Cutler. While Cutler is, in my opinion, a much better QB than Orton, I really, REALLY liked Orton as the QB for my team. His style and attitude fit with how MY Bears have always played ball.
The only real experience that I have with Cutler is the whining and moaning that I have seen this off-season.
I am aprehensive but optimistic. And now I need to watch Bronco games to keep up on Orton, Jets games to keep up on Thomas Jones, and read about the Bengals (no one in their right mind watches Bengals games) to make sure Cedric Benson continues to fail.
At least Rex Grossman hasn't been signed yet...

Suprisingly NOT an April's Fool post.
I did, however, stumble across the link at the bottom of this post...
Apparently people are obsessed with cornholes. Give me a minute to laugh like the adolescent that I am...
...
...
Ok. Anyways, although *I* have not personally engaged in any cornhole activity, I am sure some of you have, and have probably enjoyed it. (Although cornhole related injuries are a concern.) I hear a lot of people do it wrong or don't try using the proper materials.
Anyways, now that your mind is completely buried in the gutter, click the link.
If you don't know why this is so funny to me...bless your heart. I applaud your naivity.

A Few Random Thoughts
Saturday was Grandma Floyd's memorial. Special Thanks to Marilee and Laura for coordinating such a warm and pleasant gathering. (Even if the day was frigidly cold.) I am sure Grandma would have loved the wonderful stories that were told and she would have especially loved to see so many family members gathered together.
I wasn't feeling especially well that day, which of course makes sense because I started my vacation on Friday. I figure I have some bad Karma stored up over something despite my best efforts to keep it clear.
Yesterday was our 15th wedding anniversary. 15 years married to the only person on the planet that makes sense. Kinda makes you jealous, doesn't it? Well, she is mine so BACK OFF! I could go off on a sappy pseudo-romantic rant of how wonderful Maxine is and what a wonderful life she has given me so far but anyone that knows us already hears the gory details on a daily basis so I will spare you here. Suffice it to say, she is perfect for me and everything I ever hoped for. 'Nuff said.
I felt so lousy yesterday that we didn't go out for our anniversary. Instead, the 5 of us went out to dinner together. We had some great laughs and told fun stories about the last (almost) 17 years we have been together. Our kids are so damn much fun it makes me question why parents go out without their kids.
We rescheduled our date for Saturday night. I have no idea what we are going to do yet but we hope to go somewhere "dress-upy" so Maxine can wear her new smokin' hot dress. Did I mention that it is amazingly hot on her? I don't know that I will be able to keep my grubby paws off her long enough to consume a meal.
Anywho, more to come soon.

Gee-tar, Drums, and a siren...
Hard to believe, I know.
My wonderful Maxine, in her awesomeness, was sensitive to my grumpiness and was determined to find a cure.
As we were contemplating our dinner choices and just having a general chat, she suggested a rousing game of Rock Band.
Well, little camper, that worked wonders. Our little 5 man band is not very good, not by a longshot, but we laughed and sang and rocked for a couple of hours and all signs of mister grumpy gills were gone. We only have a PS2 so downloadable content is a no-go, but the stock songs are rock-a-rific by themselves.
Regin is quite the crooner, especially with Jeff shredding the guitar, Andrew thumping the bass, and Maxine defying logic on the drums. Me? I prefer to float around all 4.
My vacation starts tomorrow. I see a good amount of Rock Band in my future. If you haven't played it, I suggest you give it a shot.

Repetition
So, the definition of repetition is to repeatedly rub boobies. Now you are informed.
That is a complete side tangent. My real reason for posting was the following video. The title, repetition, is because this is the same girl I posted the other day. Normally I would try not to repeat someone so soon but your mum told me to.
Enjoy.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INd_i7RiwYs
Have you ever thought about making your own videos and posting them on YouTube? Me neither.
It's a four day week for me. Jealous much? I think it is going to be incredibly hard to focus. If I work with you, please forgive me. And what are you doing reading this during work hours? SHAME ON YOU!
Maxine and I celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary next week. I think that means she is officially stuck with me.
I have a great big party planned for our anniversary. If you haven't already received your invite it is probably because we don't like you. Either that or it could be because I have the party planned in my head but not the thousands and thousands of dollars it would take to pull it off. That plus the fact that Maxine made me PROMISE not to spend any money. Since she reads this, I will have to say I didn't.
Have a great day and remember, a wise man once said, "Don't eat wooden nickels."
Yes, it was me.
Books to Movies
Some examples of bad adaptations would be Eragon, other than the caracter names it was too different to be recognizable. Also the golden compass. Now I have not read it, but Jeff has and he was infuriated by the movie. I have never seen such a strong reaction. He still talks about how mad it made him.
Some movies based on books are actually better than the books. No slight on Nicolas Sparks, but the notebook and a walk to remember were both way better movies.
Then there are the enigmas. Stardust fits in this category for me. The book by Neil Gaiman was good. The movie was good. I liked the middle of the book better, and the beginning and end of the movie better. Weird.
These are my random thoughts of the day. Enjoy!

A Thought on Bathrooms
Someday we will all have unisex bathrooms. Why don't we now?
I guess the old theory is that you don't want someone checking you out while you are doing what nature makes you do, and sometimes making such wonderful noises while doing it, but...
If your worry is that people might check out your can in the can, or try to peep your peepee, then you can never use a public restroom again.
If the guy standing next to you is inclined to check out "yer business" while standing at the urinal, is that more or less likely in a unisex bathroom? Less likely, DUH! There wouldn't be urinals in a public toilet. So that means that any guy that isn't in favor of unisex bathrooms must want to check out my junk. If a girl is opposed to unisex bathrooms, it is probably because you don't want a guy to hear the noises that girls don't make anyways.
Trust me, most men are thinly veiled adolescents. We would think it is riotously funny and not in the least bit embarrassing.
So, to sum it all up, males that are opposed to unisex bathrooms are interested in me. Females that are opposed to unisex bathrooms are delusional.
It is an inevitability so lets not fight it anymore. Equality of the sexes starts on the toilet!
Profound, isn't it?
A spicy little tidbit.
It is quoted as a bit by Andy Rooney, who I normally think of as a complete douchebag but this was too funny not to quote.
"For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!"
Oh man. That's funny.

Have you heard?
I have found so many bands that I am now a fan of across many different genres.
I won't go in to them all because I have to pee so this needs to be brief.
But, the first "great discovery" I made was The Pillcrushers. Have you heard of them? I think I have all of their released music now. I recommend them if you need poppy refreshment.

I'm gonna keep on lovin' you....
Maxine clued me in to the fact that REO Speedwagon and Styx were coming in concert.
For those of you that are too young to appreciate them, well, you should.
I had the awesome privilege to see Styx and Kansas on tour together way too many years ago and it was freakin'tastic.
I am thinking that me and the superhottie will have to go to this one. And with tickets starting at $13.50, how can you not?
Tickets don't go on sale for another week. If you want to buy me some, let me know.
Here is the link!
It is called the Can't Stop Rockin' tour for a reason. Freakin great bands in an open air stadium. Oh, I am giddy.

The Space Derby
I can not express how much fun it was. Andrew worked hard on his rocket. (The Comet, in the picture) and we had a pretty successful run.
For some reason, I didn't take the camera to the Blue and Gold banquet, so you are missing out on seeing me and Andrew tearing it up in a three-legged race.
Close your eyes and you can probably imagine it. We aren't the sportiest chaps out there...

The Graveyard Book wins the Newbery Medal
But today's exciting news....
You all know by now that my favorite author is Neil Gaiman. By a longshot. It's soooo not even close.
Anyways, his newest book, The Graveyard Book, just won the Newbery Medal!
Freakin' A Awesome. For those that don't know what the Newbery Medal is, it basically means that the American Library Association thinks it is badass!
Their, somewhat less excitable, explanation is "The Newbery Medal honors the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children."
In other words, this is a badass book that your child should read. (And their parents as well.) It's THAT good!
For the 80's gamer in all of us

A new-ish dinner idea...
Anyways, here is what you need:
Rice
Bacon
Brown Sugar
Red Chili Sauce
Mayo
Water Chestnuts
Crunchy Chow Mein Noodles
Stay with me here....
1. Start by making your sauce. I don't generally measure, but the ratio should work.
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup mayo
1/4 cup chili sauce
You can play around with the ratio depending on if you want it sweet or spicy.
2. Cut the uncooked bacon in half and wrap each half piece around a water chestnut.
3. Place the wrapped water chestnuts on a lined cookie sheet, drizzle with sauce, and bake at 350 for about 30-40 minutes. (Depending on how crispy you want your bacon.
4. Once that is in the oven, start your rice, and wait...
To serve, place the bacon-wrapped water chestnuts over the rice, drizzle with a little extra sauce, top with Chow Mein noodles.
Freakin yummy. We served it with green beans but it would be good with pretty much any green veggie. (Broccoli anyone?)

Barack Obama is my president
Partially to watch the Inauguration.
Watching President Obama give his opening address was inspiring.
I hope that he can deliver on most, if not all, of his plans for an improved America.

The death of an old friend...
The very same kind of pose I would have hollered at the kids for.
Then, tragedy struck. My fat ass broke my favorite chair.
My lovely, big, squishy, brown recliner that I spent years bugging my dad for is now a heap of broken tears.
Please join me in a moment of silence.

Coraline...am I obsessed?
I think I have said (at least 42 million times) that Neil Gaiman is my favorite author. Coraline is coming out soon and I can't hardly stand it. (Even though the previews contain a multitude of things that were not in the book and that does not bode well for the film.)
I have been watching the Neverwhere mini-series that the BBC did in the 90s. The kids think it is exceptionally strange but I love it. The ability to get obscure things like this makes me love Netflix all the more.
Some reasons why I love YouTube...
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwuIIsDjgZg
Cerra pointed this one out to me:
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehOE0WP-Ngc
I also found an assload of fantastic Christmas videos this morning that are fantastic. (By badass bands like Sixpense None The Richer, Jars of Clay, etc) But I will wait till next year for those.
